A Sense of Home

I paint landscapes with trees, light, and houses at dusk because I’m drawn to that in-between space, the moment where the world feels quiet enough to notice something deeper. Trees have always felt like silent witnesses to me, protective and steady, holding space rather than demanding attention. Light filtering through branches, or glowing from a house against the cold, carries a sense of warmth, promise, and refuge. The feeling that someone is there, waiting, even if you’re standing outside.

Encaustic allows me to hold that feeling physically. The layers, translucency, and texture mirror how memory and meaning accumulate over time, never fully revealed all at once. I like that there’s mystery in the process, that details can be discovered slowly.

At its core, I make these paintings to offer a place of rest. A reminder of wonder, of being held by beauty, and of the quiet assurance that even in darkness or uncertainty, there is still light, love, and a sense of home.
