13"x13" mixed media encaustic on wood panel with 2.5" deep natural maple floater frame
There was something about all the major shifts happening in the world in recent times that pushed me to dig deeper into myself to get in contact with the truest essence of what inspires me to create. It felt important to keep showing up despite the swirling energies of fear and doubt and to distill the sources of peace, truth, and beauty that shape my days.
This painting was inspired by a visit to a botanical garden. There was a display of cultivated bonsai trees from the early 1900's and I found them so enchanting. I wanted to depict how they might look growing in an imagined landscape. A strong gold leaf sun radiants down on the green of the leaves. Handmade textured papers, collaged bits, pastels, and copper leaf build up the layers of ground beneath the tree in a patterned stratification.
